Overview
About Dr. Misty Embrey, MD
Dr. Misty Embrey, MD, is an integrative psychiatrist at GWCIM who supports mental health by caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. She works with each patient to understand what’s driving symptoms, including stress, sleep, nutrition, and other lifestyle factors. Along with therapy and medication when needed, she may recommend evidence-based approaches such as mindfulness, movement, yoga, and targeted supplements.
Background
Personal Journey to Integrative Medicine
Dr. Embrey has always been passionate about holistic healing. During medical school, she traveled to India and China to study Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She documented her experiences in "The Healer Within," a film that earned her the Scholarship in Medical Humanities Award from her medical school. These travels reinforced her belief that our minds, bodies, and spirits can work together to enhance our overall health when balanced.
Dr. Embrey continually seeks further training to expand her therapeutic knowledge. In addition to being a board-certified psychiatrist, she is a certified yoga instructor and has completed courses in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). She maintains a daily yoga and meditation practice, recognizing the profound positive impact they have had on her well-being.
Dr. Misty Embrey and Dr. Misha Kogan met many years ago while they were medical students interested in holistic medicine. Through the years of their training, they remain connected and support each other on the journey toward their ideal workplace. When an opportunity arose in 2021, Dr. Embrey was excited to join Dr. Kogan on the GWCIM team of like-minded Integrative Medicine practitioners.
