Overview

About Yael

Yael Flusberg is a seasoned yoga therapist, Reiki Master, and somatic and meaning-centered integration coach whose work lives at the intersection of ancient healing traditions and modern trauma-informed practice. With warmth, honesty, and deep presence, she supports individuals and groups in metabolizing grief, transition, and profound experiences so they can move forward with steadiness and renewed agency.

Whether you're navigating a chronic illness, processing grief, or simply searching for a more grounded way to live in your body, Yael meets you exactly where you are. Her sessions weave together somatic movement, energy work, mindfulness, and compassionate coaching to help you reconnect with your own inner wisdom and capacity for healing.

Background

Yael's Journey

Yael's path to integrative healing has been shaped by more than 30 years of work at the intersection of embodiment, leadership, and human resilience. Long before she became a certified yoga therapist and Reiki master, she was working as a leadership coach and strategic facilitator—helping people find their footing during periods of change and uncertainty. It was this deep interest in how people navigate challenge and transformation that eventually drew her into the world of somatic and energy-based healing.

Her training reflects that same breadth and curiosity. Over the years, Yael has pursued specialized study in Compassionate Inquiry® (developed by Dr. Gabor Maté), trauma-informed HeartMath, Tension & Trauma Release Exercises, and end-of-life doula care through INELDA. Each layer of training has deepened her ability to hold space for people at their most vulnerable—whether they're facing a difficult diagnosis, grieving a loss, or simply trying to feel at home in their own skin again.

Yael places a high value on trust, authenticity, and collaboration. She believes healing is a journey best undertaken with patience, openness, and mutual respect—and that the goal is never dependency, but empowerment. Her work is about helping people discover their own inner resources, so they can meet whatever life brings with greater ease and agency.

Since 2005, Yael has taught yoga and yoga therapy in hospitals, libraries, workplaces, schools, and studios across the Washington, D.C. area. She has facilitated end-of-life care in hospice, hospital, and community settings. Her community work reflects the same values she brings to every individual session: presence, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the body's capacity for healing.

Clinical Practice

At GWCIM

Yael has been an integral part of the GWCIM team since 2010, bringing a rich, multi-layered approach to her work with patients. She combines somatic, evidence-based, and trauma-informed practices—including movement, mindfulness, biofeedback, hands-on Reiki touch, and coaching—to help retrain the nervous system and support meaningful health outcomes.

At GWCIM, Yael offers individual in-person and online sessions tailored to each person's needs. She is available for single-modality sessions (Reiki or Yoga Therapy) as well as integrative sessions that draw on multiple approaches simultaneously. Her work complements and deepens the care provided by GWCIM's medical team, making her an essential part of the center's whole-person treatment model.

When working with Yael, patients can expect a nurturing, compassionate experience. She helps clients reconnect with their bodies, process difficult emotions, and build genuine resilience. Her sessions foster self-awareness, inner strength, and a sense of agency—giving people tools they can carry into everyday life long after the session ends.

From Our Patients

What Patients Say

Yael is a compassionate person, teacher, and healer who creates a sacred space of deep trust and belonging. In the energy and coaching work I've done with her, she has treated me with encouragement, offered gentle guidance, and made me feel respected, and cared for. Working with her has opened my heart and eyes and has taught me so much about myself and how to make sense of the world. I am so grateful the universe brought her into my life.

— Vicky S.

Yael's teaching style is refreshingly honest, humorous, and fun. Lessons were structured in a way that made them easy to digest; the information on anatomy and yin yoga in particular filled in a gap in my teaching knowledge. Yael's creative approach to sequencing also invigorated and inspired my teaching at a time when I needed to spice things up and keep my students interested in the ever-unfolding marvel that is yin yoga.

— Fiona Griffin

I was visiting Washington, D.C. and had a profoundly transformative Reiki session with Yael Flusberg that made me wish I lived close enough to continue working with her! After my Reiki session with Yael, even though my mind continued to be worried about the everyday stresses of life, my body was simply not reacting to those negative signals, but instead was serene & joyfully at peace. I will forever remember Yael as the one who first opened the door to my body's potential for healing.

— M.M.

Yael's training was such a wonderful and fruitful experience for me. [She] created a safe space for learning, exploration, and growth for all teacher trainees. I expected to learn about the yin methodology, but left with such a grander scope of knowledge. We tackled anatomy, the energetic body, the Chinese Meridians, sequencing, and the elements, and were coached on how to teach these topics in a trauma-sensitive way. To see how Yael can overlap and pull from all of these different systems to create a thoughtful yoga class was quite astonishing, but she also made it approachable through curriculum and group exercises for us to do the same. I've been able to put this training to use, teaching weekly Yin classes in a few different settings since graduation. Yael made herself accessible all throughout training and has been a resource for us all post-graduation, too. I highly recommend this training to anybody with a deep love of yoga and learning. Yael is an incredible wealth of knowledge.
